چکیده

Scale-space is an important recent concept used in image processing and pattern recognition. Traditional scale-space is generated by a linear smoothing operation. We present here a nonlinear type of smoother related to mathematical morphology which meets (modiied) \scale-space ax-ioms" and also generates a \scale-space." This scale-space is full-plane and preserves the positions of features.

Families of Generalised Morphological Scale Spaces

Morphological and linear scale spaces are well-established instruments in image analysis. They display interesting analogies which make a deeper insight into their mutual relation desirable. A contribution to the understanding of this relation is presented here. We embed morphological dilation and erosion scale spaces with paraboloid structure functions into families of scale spaces which are f...

Local Appropriate Scale in Morphological Scale-space

This paper presents a novel approach to selecting appropriate scales for region detection prior to feature localization. We develop and formalize a number of requirements that should be fulllled by such an appropriate scale operator and show by theoretical considerations and experiments that a morphological opening-closing scale-space meets these requirements better than Gaussian scale-space. A...

Morphological hat-transform scale spaces and their use in texture classification

In this paper we present a multi-scale morphological method for use in texture classification. A connected operator similar to the morphological hat-transform is defined, and two scale-space representations are built. The most important features are extracted from the scale spaces by unsupervised cluster analysis, and the resulting pattern vectors provide the input of a decision tree classifier...

Local Appropriate Scale in Morphological Scale-Space

This paper discusses the problem of selecting appropriate scales for region detection prior to feature localization. We argue that an approach in morphological opening-closing scale-space is better than one in Gaussian scale-space. The proposed operator is based on a new shape decomposition method called morphological band-pass lter that decomposes an image into structures of diierent size and ...
